This weekend was an awesome illustration of how well she has been doing. Elli came to the Ohio State Champs on Saturday and raced the open 1/2/3 women’s race that morning taking second only to Jen Malik – who is primarily doing UCI races – AND THEN SHE RACED THE MASTER’S RACE THAT AFTERNOON – and crushed it there as well taking second again overall and winning her age group.
Now all of that is awesome and Elli has been crushing the fields in the OVCX all season long. But what truly tells of her character is that she raced again in the championship race on Sunday against a very stacked field. Talking to her ahead of time she said, “My legs are really tired from doubling up yesterday and I just don’t feel like they have any snap.” She started out really fast (there was a preme really early in on the first lap) and then faded way back. Come to find out, she had actually frozen up on the backside of the lap and almost had to get off her bike. She was literally at the back of the field and over the next 30 minutes clawed her way back to the front passing lots of people and showing the kind of heart and stamina that she does every single time she gets on the bike!

Team Dayton members answered the call to be escorts for the wheeled athletes at the 2015 Air Force Marathon on Saturday, September 19th. Team Dayton has been involved with escorting the wheeled athletes since the inception of the program five years ago and, this year, our own David Cox was tapped by the Race Director to be Lead Volunteer.
Escorting the wheeled athletes is an amazing experience. Many are veterans of the Armed Forces who have sustained service-related injuries that resulted in some level of disability. It is inspirational to see all of the athletes exhibit their competitive spirit by suiting up for a 26.2 mile race.
Thanks to Paul Rouse, Mary Wienholts, Jim Oelgoetz, Susan Sagan, Chuck Smith, Heidi Riffle, Kristine Hofstra, Mike Hallock, Jr., Bob Blue, Dave Benner, and David and Kari Cox.
Special thanks to Ron Garrett for serving as the lead vehicle race lead group.
Winner Dave Berling of Avondale, AZ was just 27 seconds off the course record crossing the Finish line with a time of 1:18:50 and an average speed of 20mph.
